Traditional craft, modern ethos
"Wine and friends, are a great blend."
Ernest Hemingway
Our Vines were first planted in 1974 and today we grow Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir Précoce, Bacchus, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay

The Story of the Vines and The Vineyard spans 50 years of a rich history of passion, nature, nurture, hard work and dedication.

From the planting by the Holmes family in 1974 who prepared the land and made the wines at Wraxall, to the Operatic passion of Ray and Astra who made sure that that if you were in First Class on British Rail, at the Waldorf Hotel in London or at Wimbledon you were enjoying a glass of Wraxall, through to Brian & Jacky who painstakingly restored the Vineyard to its former glory; and now to David and Lexa who have taken Wraxall onwards in its journey with a new winemaker making award winning wines today and many more into the future.

What the Experts are Saying

Tom Hewson’s English Report 2022

Wraxall Vineyard Rosé 2021 – 88 points
Somerset fruit, made at Itasca Wines. Lightly creamy redcurrant fruit here, with some peardrop and almond. Some crab-apple and citrussy intensity on the palate, which is not shy of a little extraction. Still, clean, clear and carefully-done, without troubling acidity.

Wraxall Vineyard Bacchus 2021 – 85 points
Somerset fruit, made at Itasca Wines. 20% Barrel ferment. Classic Bacchus, reductive with some asparagus and green bell pepper notes over peardrops. Light, elderflower and lime palate. Straightforward, without abundant ripeness.

Jamie Goode Wine Anorak 2022

Wraxall Bacchus 2021 – 90/100
12.5% alcohol. Planted in 1974, Wraxall Vineyard is one of the oldest in the southwest. 20% of this wine was fermented in neutral oak. This is bright and lively with a fine green hint adding interest to the elderflower and lime fruit, with zesty acidity. It’s really delicate and fine: the innate freshness and high acidity has been really well handled so that the wine has a beautiful sense of balance, offering Bacchus at its aromatic best. I think a good taster would nail this immediately as Bacchus in a bling tasting.

Wraxall Early Pinot Noir Rosé 2021 – 88/100
12.5% alcohol. Pinot Noir Precoce (Frühburgunder) whole bunch pressed on slow cycle, 100% tank fermented, aged on lees in tank. Pale pink in colour this has haunting aromatics of pear, cherry and strawberries and cream, with some leafy overtones. Very fruity in the mouth with a nice juicy, tapering finish where eventually the acid wins out over the rounded, creamy fruit.

Matthew Jukes 2022

2021 Wraxall, Bacchus, Somerset
While the vintage does not appear on the label (this is being rectified in subsequent bottlings) 0021WVBAC in small print on the back label is the batch number and the ‘21’ within this code gives the drinker confidence that this is indeed a brand new 2021 wine. Juicy, exotic and with discreet peach and passionfruit notes, this is a more expressive style of Bacchus than the Dunleavy wine, and I love its exuberance and generosity. This is a delicious and memorable white wine that is foody, kaleidoscopic and rather wistful. Interestingly, there is 20% barrel fermentation employed here in neutral oak, and I feel that this adds immeasurably to the mid-palate opulence.
